What is NJABL and what happened to it?

NJABL (Not Just Another Bogus List) was a DNS Blacklist service operated by Jon Lewis since 2002. NJABL.ORG maintained a list of known and potential spam sources (open relays, open proxies, open form to mail HTTP gateways, dynamic IP pools, and direct spammers) for the purpose of being able to tag or reject spam. The blacklist service was shut down on March 1, 2013: the DNSBL zones have been emptied, later their nameservers will be pointed off into unallocated space (192.0.2.0/24 TEST-NET-1).

What should I do?

We strongly recommend removing NJABL from your ORF configuration to avoid possible problems.

Removing NJABL from ORF 5 and later versions

1. Start the ORF Administration Tool and connect to the local or remote ORF instance.
2. Navigate to the Blacklists / DNS Blacklists page.
3. Select Not Just Another Bogus List (NJABL Combined List) and click the Delete button. Click Yes to confirm.
4. Save your configuration to apply the changes by pressing Ctrl + S or by selecting File | Save Configuration from the main menu.

Removing NJABL from ORF 4.4 and earlier versions

1. Start the ORF Administration Tool.
2. Navigate to the Configuration / Tests / DNS Blacklists page.
3. Select Not Just Another Bogus List (NJABL Combined List) and click the Delete button. Click Yes to confirm.
4. Save your configuration to apply the changes by pressing Ctrl + U or by selecting File | Save and update configuration from the main menu.
