Status Information (Exchange 2007 and later)


This section describes the Status page of the ORF Administration Tool. Select InformationStatus from the navigation to view this page.

Status

Tells if ORF is ready to filter emails. The ORF Service must be running and the ORF Exchange Transport Agents has to be in Healthy status to filter emails.

ORF Service Status

The filtering logic of ORF resides in the ORF Service and so this service must run to filter emails. If the ORF service is down, emails are coming in without any filtering performed by ORF (note that other filters in the system may still catch the unwanted emails).

You can start or stop the ORF Service using the Start and Stop buttons.

Exchange Transport Agent

The ORF Transport Agents connect the ORF Service to the local Exchange installation. They must be in Healthy state (installed and enabled) for ORF to filter emails.

Exchange platform

Depending on your setup, a Transport Agent and the related ORF features may not be available. For example, the SMTP Agent is not available on Exchange 2013 servers with only the Mailbox server role installed (this does not apply to Exchange 2016/2019 mailbox servers). ORF detects the role(s) installed and provides information about such restrictions, if there is any (click the Learn more... link for details).

Status

If the Transport Agents are not installed, follow the instructions described in the related Help article to install them. If the Agents are disabled, you can enable them by using the PowerShell commands — learn more about managing ORF Transport Agents here.

To refresh the status information, click the Refresh button (may take a few seconds to complete).

Status Explanation
OK - Healthy: installed and enabled. ORF is ready to filter emails.
Updating... Still collecting status information.
Not Ready - The agent is not installed Either the ORF Service is down or the ORF Transport Agents are not installed.
Not Ready - The agent is not enabled Either the ORF Service is down or the ORF Transport Agents are disabled.
Unknown Either the status collecting process was aborted or there was an error collecting the status information. Click Refresh to force querying the status again.

Network

Verifies whether the configured DNS resolvers can successfully resolve DNS records and if the ORF service can access our webservers to update definition files, both crucial for email filtering.
