Filtering Architecture

This section describes the filtering architecture of ORF.

Filtering Components

ORF filters emails with the help of the Microsoft® Exchange email transport service or the Microsoft® IIS SMTP Service.

ORF Basic Filtering Architecture

The ORF SMTP Module integrates with the SMTP Service and notifies the ORF Service about various events related to the emails. ORF Transport Agents do the same under Exchange 2007 and newer versions. The ORF Service performs email filtering based on the information provided by the SMTP Module / Transport Agents and tells the what to do with the email (e.g., ignore the email and pass the control back to server, or reject the email).
