This section explains the log and event settings in ORF.
Select from the left navigation pane to manage these settings.
ORF provides four log devices: ORF plain text log, Windows Event Log, and Unix syslog for general logging, and the ORF PowerLogs for generating reports by the ORF Reporting Tool. Events to be logged can be configured per log devices. You can also configure ORF to send email notifications about various events.
Select the Verbose log messages option if you want detailed textual information about the events or select Short log messages if you want brief textual information about the events. The selected log verbosity applies to all log devices, except ORF PowerLogs.
ORF's native and recommended log device. ORF logs are simple text files that can be viewed by the ORF Log Viewer or by any text viewer. To configure the ORF log related settings, click the Configure button in the ORF Text Log group.

Use this log device to log events to the Windows Event Log. This can be convenient if you have a Windows Event Log monitoring program. To configure the ORF log related settings, click the Configure button in the Windows Event Log group.

Allows logging to syslog devices which are compatible with the BSD syslog standard (RFC 3164). Useful if you collect your logs to a central location, e.g., to a Linux server with syslogd. To configure the related settings, click the Configure button in the Unix syslog group.

Configure email notifications to get notified about specific events in email, such as errors or other problems. To configure the related settings, click the Configure button in the Email Notifications group.

ORF PowerLogs are used by the ORF Reporting Tool to generate reports. PowerLog daily logs have an UTC (Universal Coordinated Time) timestamp in the file name and a .opg extension. PowerLogs also have an external reference file called plogrefs.dat. The ORF Service periodically preprocesses the PowerLog files in order to speed up generating reports. During the preprocessing process, new files with names identical to the daily log files, but with a .ppr extension, are generated.

Logging directly to SQL is currently not supported by ORF, but you can work around this by using our very flexible Log Provider tool, which parses the textual ORF log data and coverts it into database tables and records.
