Starting and Stopping

This help section describes the control options of the ORF Service.

Service Information

The ORF Service is a Windows® Service, which resides in the orfeesvc.exe file.

Service properties

Service name: ORF Service
Service host executable: orfeesvc.exe
Service identifier (for net start/net stop): VSORFEE

Starting the ORF Service

To start the service using the ORF Administration Tool, select ServiceStart ORF Service from the menu or press F11. You can also use the shortcut in the toolbar.

From command line, use the net Windows® tool to start the service as

net start vsorfee

You can also start ORF from the Windows® Services MMC snap-ip (services.msc), select the ORF Service title, click with the right mouse button and select "Start".

Stopping the ORF Service

To stop the service using the ORF Administration Tool, select ServiceStop ORF Service from the menu or press F12. You can also use the shortcut in the toolbar.

From command line, use the net Windows® tool to stop the service as

net stop vsorfee

You can also stop ORF from the Windows® Services MMC snap-ip (services.msc), select the ORF Service title, click with the right mouse button and select "Stop".

Reinitialization

To reinitialize the ORF Service (e.g., on configuration change) without restarting the service, run orfeesvc.exe with the -updateconfig parameter:

orfeesvc -updateconfig

ORF Service and Remote Connections

The ORF Service cannot be controlled when connecting remotely, as the service is required to run for the remote connection: stopping or restarting it would close the connection, resulting in a "I closed myself out and the key is inside" situation. To avoid this, the configuration can only be saved remotely, which actually reinitializes the service with the new settings without restarting it.
