ORF Text Log Settings

This section explains the ORF text log and event settings.

General Information

The log generated by ORF is a plain text file. We recommend using (at least) this log format, because can be archived/transferred easily, and can be viewed, searched or filtered using the ORF Log Viewer tool shipped with ORF.

Events Tab

Enable ORF logging

Set this checkbox to enable generating ORF text logs.

Events

Select events to be logged by their class, severity and filtering point.

Set the checkbox of an event category to be logged, e.g., set the "Log events with Error severity" if you want to log errors or set "On Arrival: Log when an email is blacklisted" if you want to log blacklisted emails at the On Arrival filtering point. Where noted, the specific event overrides the Info severity settings, i.e., if Info severity logging is disabled, but blacklisting emails at the On Arrival filtering point is enabled, the event will be logged even if its severity is Info.

Settings Tab

Log file path

Enter the path to the ORF text logs. The path must be a valid and existing path, preferably on a local drive. By clicking the three-dots button or by pressing CTRL-SPACE in the edit box, you can select the path from a folder dialog. By default, the text logs are stored in the ORF folder.

Log file name or format

Enter the desired log file name here. When the Use Format Fields in the Log File Name option is enabled, you can insert format specifiers to the log file name, such as {YEAR} (4-digit year), {MONTH} (2-digit month), {DAY} (2-digit day) and {HOUR} (2-digit hour). In this case, the log file names are generated using these specifiers, e.g., if the log file name is orfee-{MONTH}-{DAY}-{YEAR}.log, the events for day November 5, 2007 will be stored in file orfee-11-05-2007.log.

Use format fields in the log file name

Enable or disable the log file name format specifiers using this option.

Add email subject to the log where available

Set this checkbox to log the email subject of the incoming email as a separate column in the log. Note that at the Before Arrival filtering point, the email subject is never available, thus Before Arrival log entries will never show the subject of the related email.

Add email Message ID to the log where available

Set this checkbox if you want the MIME Message-ID of the incoming emails to be added to the log as a separate column. This may help identifying the messages. The Message-ID is available at the On Arrival filtering point only.

Add HELO/EHLO domain to the log where available

Set this checkbox to add the SMTP HELO/EHLO domain to the ORF log as a separate column.

Use UTC/GMT instead of local time

By default, ORF logs events with the local time. Set this checkbox to adjust event timestamps to UTC/GMT.

Log retention - Automatically delete logs older than "X" days

By enabling this feature, you can get ORF Text Log files removed automatically above a certain age. This prevents ORF logs from consuming too much disk space.
