What is this?
This service allows testing the SPF policy evaluation process. By providing a detailed log and summary about the evaluation, you can find and troubleshoot policy issues.
What is the purpose of the "HELO/EHLO domain" parameter?
SPF evaluation falls back to the HELO/EHLO command argument domain if the email checked has a blank (NULL) envelope sender address, as it is the case with Delivery Status Notifications.
The HELO/EHLO domain may also be used during SPF macro expansion.
What is the purpose of the "SPF Policy" parameter?
Use this field to test an SPF policy which has not been published yet. The contents of this field override the DNS information (the tester will not look up the domain SPF policy).
Why does the tester use an old version of my policy?
This might happen if you have recently updated your policy. DNS changes can take a little time to propagate and DNS data is also cached as per your TTL (Time-To-Live) settings.
Wait a few minutes and test again.
What are the limitations of the SPF Policy Tester?
The service limits the maximum evaluation time to 30 seconds. The maximum recursion level (SPF "includes") is limited in 10.
Which SPF versions are supported?
The only version supported is SPF Classic (the draft version published in May 2004). SPF has received RFC status since then (see RFC 4408), but no problems are expected with the validator.
Which SPF library is used by this validator?
The library behind this validator is our own SPF library developed for ORF.
